Read while at Victrola. [Jun. 8th, 2005|12:34 pm]

Art, I suppose, is only for beginners, or else for those resolute dead-enders, who have made up their minds to be content with the ersatz of Suchness, with symbols rather than with what they signify, with the elegantly composed recipe in lieu of the actual dinner.

- Aldous Huxley (from Doors of Perception)

I agree that lj is lame. Due to odd circumstances in my life, I am stuck in the burbs and work from home. In the past I was in school, worked meatspace jobs, or was living in big cities, where if I wanted social contact I could hang in a cafe and chat with real people. I really need to make the effort to drive into town more.

That's largely why I'm down here at victrola; it's nice to have people around and background noise while working. I don't know if being on the computer defeats that purpose; I suspect it does in part.

When I lived on Cap Hill I used to take a book and hang out at all the coffee shops. I miss that life.

It's scary how many people are on lj. I go to clubs and I recognize people from their icons.
